Menopause Treatments

Menopause is the period in a women’s life when she has a permanent end of menstruation and no longer is fertile.  This is the period of 12 months after are women’s last period.  This is a natural process that occurs in every woman.  The main difference between women is some of the symptoms of menopause that you experience.  Some women are lucky enough to experience only mild symptoms, while other women require menopause treatments.

There are many different symptoms that occur when menopause starts to happen.  This will include such things as hot flashes, irregular periods, mood swings, sleep disruptions, thinning of hair, and decreased fertility.  It is important to remember that this is a natural process that affects everyone.

Some women who experience some of these symptoms are immediately keen on finding menopause treatments.  If you are able to handle the menopause symptoms, you should not seek treatment.  Treatment should be only given to women who cannot handle their symptoms.

If you are keen on getting treatment for your menopause your doctor might recommend hormone therapy.  This is a therapy where you are given Estrogen to the lowest dose to help you relief some of the hot flash symptoms that you have.  It is important to stop taking the therapy if you start to have the symptoms go away.

Another treatment that is often given to people is low dose antidepressants.  These are designed to help combat some of the triggers that might create an onset of your symptoms.  Another drug that is also proven to reduce some hot flashes is Gabapentin.  This is a drug that is also used to treat seizures.

Women who are experiencing vaginal dryness can use vaginal Estrogen to help relieve some of the dryness that occurs.  This Estrogen can be delivered using a variety of different methods to help reduce the level of dryness that you experience.

Along with the drug treatment options there are many lifestyle and hope remedies that are available.  If you are experiencing certain triggers that lead to your hot flashes you can actually work to avoid those triggers.  Getting regular exercise and avoiding triggers such as drugs and alcohol is often the best method available.

Other menopause treatments include optimizing your sleep.  If you are not getting enough exercise throughout the day you will probably find that you have a difficult time sleeping.  Work on different relaxation techniques such as yoga or guided imagery to improve your overall sleep.  Most people don’t realize that doing natural lifestyle changes can often have a significant impact on symptoms of menopause.
