Perimenopause Symptoms – What You Should Know

As women begin to enter the later stages of life there are certain changes that start to occur.  The period of perimenopause can have a lot of adverse effects on a lot of women. This is the transition period in a women’s life leading up to menopause.  Perimenopause symptoms will vary depending on the person it is affecting.

The first symptom that you might expect is menstrual irregularity.  You may start to have irregular periods that can either be shorter or longer.  You might also start to skip periods altogether.  This is a period where your ovulation starts to become unpredictable.

Another symptom that you might start to experience is sudden mood changes.  If your mood starts to swing suddenly or you become irritated very easily, this good be a sign that you are in the perimenopause stage.  A lot of people experience bad moods because external factors that occur.

You will also find that you might suffer from hot flashes and sleep deprivation.  A majority of women experience some form of hot flashes in this stage of their life.  The duration and intensity of the hot flashes will depend on the individual.  This is also connected with sleep patterns become disruptive also.

Another perimenopause symptom that you might experience is vaginal or bladder problems.  Because your body is experiencing a lowered level of estrogens, you may lose your vaginal lubrication or elasticity.  This can sometimes make it extremely painful to have intercourse with your partner.  You also become more susceptible to urinary or vaginal infections that can occur.

Women who are in this stage also experience a decreased likelihood that they will be able to conceive.  While you are in this stage it will be more and more difficult to have a baby.  While this is true, as long as you are consistently having periods the possibility of a child still remains open.

Another symptom of perimenopause is that you will start to lose bone faster than you can replace it.  This can actually work to increase the chance of you developing osteoporosis as you are getting older.  It is important to talk to your doctor about some of the changes you are experiencing.

Anytime you are experiencing a perimenopause symptom that actually decreases your ability to function in society, it is important that you talk to your doctor about different solutions available.  If you have a doctor that cares about you, you will be able to face the different changes in your body with a sense of confidence that you will prevail.
